Let’s get to work with The Megablocks Lil’ Building Drill Set
Play is the building blocks of life they say, so I say let’s get building and what better way to do that than through Megablocks!? Megablocks has been a huge hit in our home for the last 4 years! A got his first set when he turned 1 and his collection has grown over the last 4 years, and so has his imagination! You can only imagine the excitement and shouts of joy when the Megablocks lil’ building drill set arrived on our doorstep. It was like Christmas all over again, especially since A is right smack in the middle of the creating, building and smashing construction phase! A loves pulling out his tools to help his “opa” build and fix things around the house, and I often find him all suited up with his overall, builders hat, safety goggles and toolbox ready. So let’s take a deeper look into theMegablocks Lil’ building set that got A this excited!
What is the Megablocks Lil’ Building Drill Set?
This product was designed for children who loves to play pretend and are perfect for the ages 2 to around 6 years old I’ll say. The set consists of 32 pieces, which includes 24 building blocks, and 1 mechanical drill with 3 different drill bits and 2 plastic screws. Little ones can go on a magical building adventure and can build anything they imagine by using the 3 different drill bits (a flathead, hex and drilling end) and the special pieces like the 2 plastic screws and 2 plastic gears (that actually turn as they play).
What A loves about the Lil’ building Drill Set:
- It’s his very own mini workshop. The blocks turn into a tiny little workshop when built according to the instructions and the drill actually turns and drills the screws into the holes of the “workshop”, whilst making a soft drilling sound. The drills turn and the sound makes it look and feel very realistic.
- A loves that the blocks were designed with little hands in mind. The larger blocks not only allows A to build whatever he imagines with much more ease than the other smaller blocks that one can find in the market, but it also allows him to build BIG creations, like a proper sized robot or a garage for his toy cars. The bigger blocks make building fun and exciting instead of turning it into a frustration and irritation for little ones.
- A loves that the Megablocks that came with this set are compatible with all of his other sets, which guarantees BIGGER and GREATER creations and way MORE FUN!
- Easy Instructions – A loves doing everything himself, so he loved being able to build the workshop by himself, mommy only had to guide him verbally, but the instructions are simple and straightforward. This is always a huge pro, because it avoids unnecessary meltdowns and helps A build confidence and grow his independence.
- Last but not least A loves how interactive the toy is. The drill actually “drills” the screws into the holes, the gears also move and turn when placed in the right position, and the blocks allow him to create his own, unique workspace every time he wants to play.
BUT enough about A, what about mommy?
What mommy loves about this set:
- The developmental factor – building blocks are an incredible tool for childhood development and focusses on some very important skills that little ones need to master, such as their fine motor skills, problem-solving skills, spatial awareness skills, hand-eye coordination and so so much more! So, if building blocks are so important for their development why not make it fun? One thing this set guarantees are hours and hours of developmental fun, and the best part is they won’t even know that they are working all of those very important skills.
- Learning through play – Megablocks are colorful, bright and big so it is also a fun tool to use when teaching our little ones about colors, numbers, letter recognition and even counting. There are so many different ways you can use this set to make learning fun, for example you have 2 screws, now drill one screw into the hole, how many screws are left? I also use a whiteboard marker to write on the blocks and we can use a hammer to “smash” over all the blue blocks, or “smash” over the blocks as we count, or use the blocks to order the numbers. There really are no limits as to how you can use these blocks to encourage learning through play, which I believe is crucial at A’s age.
- Compatibility – I love how all of the Megablocks sets are compatible with each other, and even some other sets. This makes it an awesome birthday or Christmas gift because you can just add on to their collection and it never goes to waste. By adding different sets and collections you only give them more freedom and space to think, create and develop their perfect little magical wonder Megablocks land.
- It encourages imaginary play and that is something that kids these days struggle with. Tablets, phones and other electronic toys and devices steal their childhood and they forget how to use their imagination, how to PLAY and be a child! I love how these sets allow them to be children again and helps bring their imagination to life!
- NO BATTERIES REQUIRED – Need I say more?
- It’s not excessively large and relatively easy to store. We have a Megablocks drawer so whenever A is done playing, we just break it all up and store it away until the next time.
- QUALITY – This is something I always mention with regards to Megablocks and that is because these things are made to last and survive the toddler boy years! If A can’t break it, I’m pretty sure its indestructible.
- I love that there are different sets to choose from in the construction theme, which means that they can expand their little workshop even more through purchasing the other sets.
Some things to keep in mind:
- I definitely believe that this set will work best with other Megablocks sets. This set alone only comes with 24 building blocks, and most of those are being used to build the mini workshop. I know A wanted to use his “workshop” to build other creations and for this he needed more Megablocks than that which came with this set alone. It’s a great birthday gift and add on to an already existing set.
Final Words:
All in all A really enjoys this set. It’s right up his alley and I love watching him go on all the different little adventures with this set. I love watching him find different ways to make the gears turn, or design his own little workshops. Is this something that I would buy for him? Definitely. Is it value for money? Yes, I believe so.
